In this section, we're going to showcase some spectacular Java applet sites. They offer a glimpse of what Java is capable of. If you know of any other such sites, drop us a note.

 Applet Collections

Digital Cat's Java Resource Center has 2,596 as of 08/28/00 20:17:50 (PST). The collection includes Applets, Java Applications, Documents, Collections and JavaScripts. Also in Japanese!

 Artificial Intelligence/Lifeforms 

Biomorph Breeder
How about using Java to evolve trees into animal forms? Based on the biomorph concept described in Richard Dawkins' book "The Blind Watchmaker", this applet lets you experiment with breeding artificial creatures called biomorphs, causing them to gradually evolve into a diversity of forms.

 Astronomy@Work 

GeoAstro Applet Collection
Collection of interactive Java applets that display the position of sun and moon on the horizon for any date, time and location, and on a world map with day and night regions. The times of rise and setting, the declination, the Greenwich hour angle and the equation of time are computed.

JavaHelp, Sun's new cross-platform online help system which is expected to become the standard vehicle for delivering help for Java applications can be downloaded for free through November 1, 2001.

TopCoder is fast becoming the major league for programming competitions. TopCoder brings members together twice a week to compete online (Single Round Match). In addition, online and on location (Tournaments) are held twice a year. For each individual problem, coders have the option of using Java, C++ or C# to code the solution.
